The general plan...

Boomerang, as far as we can establish, has been in the same family of 80 or 90 years.  The current occupant, an elderly widow in her late eighties, built the farmhouse with her late husband about 67 years ago.

Little has been done over the last decade by way of improvements so the fencing needs some sorting out, we need to look at which paddocks will take pasture and which will need to go under crop.

The plan is to improve the property and get it to a stage where we can carry around 400 steers for fattening.

John Deere 6630

Well this is it!  We're having a four-in-one front end loader fitted too, just to make life a little easier around the farm.  Deposit paid today, it's just sitting in the yard at Peel Valley Farm Machinery at Tamworth waiting for us to make the big move after Christmas.

Fencing...

The perimeter is approx. 17kms.  Most of the fencing is adequate but there's going to be a lot of hardwork getting it up to scratch before we can think about putting some cattle on the place.

While we were at AGQuip I invested in some Waratah Fencing products which included a pneumatic post driver as well as some wire strainers, a wire spinner and a wire tension tool.

Here's a video link for what I learned at a recent Fencing Course run by the Dept. Of Primary Industries

Setting up a sight wire

Boomerang - Uriari

The property is made up of 3 lots, 2 'belong' to Boomerang and 1 'belongs' to Uriari.

The map here shows Boomerang only.  1,500 acres of cropping and grazing with the blue stars indicating where the dams are.

The paddock plan will help us identify which crops will go where and when to rotate them.

AGQUIP

We ventured up to AGQUIP at Gunnedah 2 months ago to start researching equipment such as tractors, fencing gear, CB Radios etc etc.

Ours is not quite as big as this, but not far off!

The Big Adventure begins!

It's not often you get the opportunity to take up a new adventure as part of your life.  Indeed, our forthcoming tree change is something quite daunting - the purchase of 2,310 acres of farm and mountain, Uriari Mountain to be exact.

What a bizarre feeling knowing that you own a named mountain!  So, at the ripe age of 53, I am going farming!  1,500 acres of grazing and cropping and the balance steep, hilly country.
